Stacey & Helen Achieve Their Self-Medication Goals

There were smiles all around as Stacey and Helen celebrated an important milestone, learning to safely manage their own medication.

Over the last few months, they have been on an incredible learning journey and have truly shone.

With patience, practice and a great deal of determination, they have been building the skills needed to safely manage their own medication. Their progress has been inspiring, and this achievement marks an important step toward greater independence and confidence.

Overcoming Barriers With Determination

Learning to manage medication can be complex. For many people with a learning disability, there can be additional challenges when learning new health-related skills, from understanding complex information to navigating healthcare systems.

But Stacey and Helen have shown that barriers do not have to stop progress when there is determination, commitment and the right support.

Kayleigh, Assistant Manager, said: Stacey and Helen have been fully involved and eager to learn throughout this whole process. From the very beginning, they embraced the idea of managing their own medication and have shown real pride in developing their independence.

The team around them has been incredibly supportive, and their positive attitude and willingness to adapt have truly encouraged them to give their best.

We are so pleased for them; they deserve every opportunity to do the things they want in life, and it’s a privilege for our team to be part of such an important step in their journey.

Their dedication, combined with the encouragement and guidance of an incredible staff team, has helped them reach this empowering milestone.

Stacey said, “I’m really happy that I have gained more independence and am proud of myself for doing it.”

Stacey’s Mum, Jackie, added, ” It was a big step for Stacey.  I am very pleased and happy for her; she has come on leaps and bounds, an absolute dream. The staff have been fantastic. I can take a step back knowing she is living life the way she has always wanted to.  The staff have done a brilliant job in supporting her in this journey.”

Helen said, “I enjoyed learning about my medication. I thought it would be hard, but I am managing it well. I feel a lot more independent.”

Helen’s sister, Anne, added, “I can’t believe the improvement with her and her confidence. She could not have progressed without the staff’s support and the building of her confidence. I can’t believe the difference in her.”

Moments like this highlight what can be achieved when people are supported to build confidence, develop new skills and take greater control of their own health and wellbeing.

We are incredibly proud of Stacey and Helen and the progress they have made. Their success is a wonderful example of how perseverance, encouragement and teamwork can open the door to greater independence.
