In a world where scams evolve fast and fraudsters get ever cleverer, it’s not just about awareness, it’s about empowerment. At Mainstay DRP we believe in equipping our clients with real-world tools so they can feel confident, safe and independent. That’s why we’re delighted that seven of our clients are participating in a scam-awareness course led by Orchardville Society, a course that mixes practical learning with real-life scenarios.

Why this matters

Scams don’t just cost money. They cost peace of mind, independence and trust. Especially for people who may face extra challenges or supports, having the knowledge to spot, question and respond to scams can make a huge difference in everyday life.

What the training covers

With Orchardville’s support, clients will:
• Explore common scams (phone, online, doorstep, postal).
• Use accessible, easy-read materials.
• Learn a simple test for spotting scams.
• Practise safe responses: Pause → Question → Refuse/Report.
• Build confidence with emails, texts, offers and unexpected calls.

S — Seems too good to be true
C — Contacted out of the blue
A — Asked for personal details
M — Money is requested

If one or more apply, stop and think, it may be a scam.

Common examples

  • Fake bank or government calls.
    • Emails or texts asking you to click a link.
    • Doorstep/offers asking for payment or details.
    • Online marketplace or social media deals that seem “too good”.
