Mainstay DRP graduates celebrate at Queen’s University Belfast

It was a proud day for Mainstay DRP as clients gathered at Queen’s University Belfast to celebrate completing the Caring for Our World programme.
Held in Whitla Hall on 9 September, the graduation ceremony brought together learners from across Northern Ireland to recognise their achievements and the contribution they are making to caring for our world.
Earlier this summer, we shared how Mainstay’s second group of clients had completed the programme. September’s celebration brought that learning journey to a special milestone, with graduates from both groups recognised for their achievements.
From learning to everyday action
Developed by Live Here Love Here and Positive Futures, Caring for Our World provides accessible climate and sustainability training for people with a learning disability.
With support from Mainstay staff, clients have explored practical ways to reduce waste, save energy and make more sustainable choices. We have been putting our learning into practice by recycling more carefully, being mindful of switching off lights and encouraging others to do the same.

Reflecting on the training, Donna said:
“I didn’t realise there were so many small things I could do to help the environment like cleaning the beach, recycling and turning the tap off when you’re brushing your teeth. It makes me feel proud that I’m doing my bit.”
Graduation was an opportunity to recognise that learning and the pride that comes from knowing you can make a difference.
Celebrating all our graduates
Congratulations to Darragh, Donna, Kieran, Adam, Betty, Paddy, Patrick, Damien, Stephen, Marty, Katherine, Joanne and Marie Anne on completing Caring for Our World. Kieran, Betty, Marie Anne, Damien and Marty were unable to attend the ceremony, but their achievements are equally part of this celebration.
Thank you to Live Here Love Here and Positive Futures for creating the programme and organising the celebration, and to the Mainstay staff who supported clients throughout their learning.
We are proud of all our graduates and the steps they are taking to care for our world.
