Appointments
Who are Silent Cuts appointments suitable for?
Silent Cuts is open to anyone who would prefer a quieter, calmer or more supportive hair appointment.
Many of our clients are autistic people, people with learning disabilities, or people with sensory sensitivities, anxiety, dementia or other additional needs. However, you do not need a diagnosis or specific support need to use the salon.
Some people simply prefer a quieter environment, a quiet appointment, or a more relaxed approach to hairdressing. Others value having a space where they can take their time, take breaks if needed, and feel comfortable being themselves without worrying about judgement.
We also offer familiarisation visits, where you can meet the stylist, explore the salon and feel comfortable before having a haircut.
Do I have to talk during my appointment?
No, you don’t have to talk. Some people enjoy conversation, and others prefer quiet appointments. Both are completely okay. We can keep conversation to a minimum if you prefer.
Can someone come with me?
You are welcome to bring anyone who supports you, such as a parent, carer, support worker, family member or trusted companion.
What if I feel anxious?
We understand appointments can feel overwhelming. We will work at your pace, offer breaks where needed and support you in a calm, low-pressure way.
Do I have to sit in the salon chair?
No. We can offer flexible seating or standing options and adapt appointments where possible.
How do you understand my sensory needs?
When you book your appointment, we’ll send you a short form by email so you can let us know anything that would help you feel comfortable.
We tailor each appointment to your individual needs. This can include quieter appointments, reduced conversation, flexible seating, movement breaks, additional time, and access to sensory aids and comfort items such as a weighted blanket, bubble lamp and other resources that may help you feel comfortable.

Can I prepare for my visit in advance?

Can I visit the salon before booking a haircut?
Yes. We currently offer familiarisation visits for children who may benefit from getting to know the salon before having a haircut.
These visits usually take place over a short series of sessions (typically four visits), allowing children to meet the stylist, explore the space and become comfortable at their own pace.
Please get in touch if you would like to discuss whether a familiarisation visit would be suitable.
How do you understand my sensory needs?

What happens during a one-to-one appointment?

It allows extra time (1 hour or 1 hour plus depending on service), creating a calmer environment with more flexibility to go at your own pace.

Pay It Forward Fund
A haircut shouldn’t cost more just because someone needs extra support.
For some people, having a haircut can take a little longer. They may need time to become familiar with the salon, a private appointment, sensory adjustments or the flexibility to pause and take a break.
The Pay It Forward Fund helps us provide this additional time and support without passing the full cost on to the customer.
