About Mainstay DRP
In the early 1990s, a small group of people in Downpatrick had one clear aim — to create meaningful residential support for people with learning disabilities.
That vision grew into Mainstay DRP — now a charity with over 130 staff supporting around 200 people across our community.
Our name reflects what we aim to be: A Mainstay — a trusted anchor, a steady support, and a catalyst for growth, belonging, and independence.
Our Purpose
To enrich lives — by unlocking potential, building confidence, and creating opportunities for people with learning disabilities and autism, and the families who care for them.

Pathway to Possibility
Pathway to Possibility is Mainstay DRP’s one-page strategic plan for 2025–2030. It captures how we’ll continue enriching lives, supporting adults with learning disabilities and their families to live with purpose, belonging, and independence. Guided by our values of empowerment, compassion and community, this plan sets out the priorities that will shape our next chapter of growth and possibility.
What We Do
We offer a full range of support:
- Residential Care & Supported Living – safe, supportive homes where people can live independently with the right help.
- Short Breaks – giving carers rest and people new experiences.
- Day & Evening Opportunities – activities that build skills, friendships, and confidence.
- Social Enterprises – inclusive businesses such as our hair salon, creating training and work opportunities for people of all abilities.
