Volunteer Week 2026 took place from 1–7 June and provided an opportunity to celebrate and recognise the incredible contribution of volunteers across Mainstay DRP.

At Mainstay, we were delighted to use this week to say a special thank you to Philip and Gillian, who generously volunteer their time each week in our polytunnel and garden areas.

Through their hard work, enthusiasm, and dedication, Philip and Gillian help create welcoming outdoor spaces that can be enjoyed by everyone. Their efforts ensure that our gardens continue to flourish, providing a place where service users can relax, socialise, and take part in meaningful activities.

More than maintaining the gardens, Philip and Gillian actively support service users to get involved in planting, watering, and growing a variety of flowers, fruits, and vegetables. Their encouragement helps individuals develop new skills, build confidence, and enjoy the many benefits of spending time outdoors and connecting with nature.

The positive impact of their volunteering can be seen throughout our services. From helping service users learn new gardening skills to creating opportunities for people to take pride in seeing plants grow and thrive, Philip and Gillian make a real difference every week.

We would also like to thank Carrie, who generously gives her time to support one of our clients through regular dog walking activities.

Carrie provides an opportunity for Kathleen to spend time with animals, enjoy the outdoors, and take part in an activity they are passionate about. For a service user with a love of animals, these experiences are both enjoyable and meaningful, helping to promote wellbeing, confidence, and community involvement.

Carrie’s kindness, commitment, and willingness to share her time have made a positive difference, and we are grateful for the support she provides.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Philip, Gillian and Carrie for their continued support, kindness, and commitment. Their contribution is greatly valued by staff, service users, families, and the wider Mainstay community.

Happy Volunteer Week, and thank you to all those who give their time to make a difference.
