A Morning of Celebration, Reflection and Community
Celebrating Achievements and Growth
One of the highlights of the morning was recognising the achievements of our Empower and Scamwise programme graduates. Dressed proudly in their hats and gowns, graduates were presented with certificates to mark their hard work, commitment and courage in embracing new learning opportunities. These programmes were delivered in partnership with Usel and Orchardville Society. They were not just training, they were about gaining confidence, staying safe, developing new skills, and believing in their own potential.
The pride in the room was unmistakable – a powerful reminder of what people can achieve when they are supported, encouraged and believed
Remembering Those We Have Lost
As part of the celebration, we also took time to pause and remember members of our Mainstay family who sadly passed away during 2025:

- Curtis Berryman
- Angela Killen
Each of them was deeply valued and remains an important part of our story. They were remembered with respect, love and gratitude, and their families and friends were held in our thoughts.
A Year in Review
Guests enjoyed a slideshow capturing moments from across 2025 – holidays taken, friendships formed, skills developed and everyday achievements across our residential, supported living, short breaks and day opportunities services. It was a powerful reminder of a year filled with progress, purpose and shared experiences.
Festive Fun and Generosity
Adding a festive sparkle to the morning was the best decorated or upcycled Christmas jumper competition, judged by volunteer Gillian, whose creativity and generosity (alongside fellow volunteer Philip) continue to bring joy to our day opportunities. Marty’s wonderful creation secured the top prize of two Belfast Giants tickets, kindly donated by Omega Outdoors
The raffle draw was another highlight, with fantastic prizes generously donated by local businesses and supporters, including the top prize of 500l of home heating oil from Strangford Fuels. Sincere thanks were shared with Christina for sourcing many of the prizes, and with all suppliers who continue to support Mainstay so generously.
Gratitude at the Heart of the Day
The event also provided an opportunity to say thank you:
- To our Management Committee, including founding members, for their long-standing vision and commitment
- To families and carers, for their trust and partnership
- To our volunteers, whose kindness and time enrich the lives of the people we support
- And most of all, to our staff – across residential services, supported living, day opportunities, short breaks, domestic support and central office teams – whose dedication, compassion and professionalism make everything possible
Looking Ahead to 2026
The Celebration Event was a fitting close to 2025 – a year marked by growth, resilience and community. It reminded us that when people are supported, included and empowered, they thrive.
As we move into 2026, we do so with gratitude, optimism and a shared commitment to continuing to enrich lives, together.
